Mr. Crystal has over 30 years of experience in private equity, investment banking, hedge funds and wealth management.
From 2013 to 2019, as a Managing Director at Tricadia Capital Management (now Corvid Peak Capital Management), Jim was the portfolio manager principally responsible for Tricadia’s private equity investments in the financial services sector, overseeing funds with over $450 million in commitments and serving on various portfolio company boards. In this capacity, he identified and structured Tricadia’s investment in CV Holdings in 2015 and has been a director of the company since that time.
Prior to joining Tricadia, Jim was a Managing Director at Rockefeller & Co., one of the largest multi-family offices and a predecessor firm to Rockefeller Capital Management, where he designed custom alternative investment portfolios for large clients and served as portfolio manager of the firm’s proprietary alternative investment vehicles from 2008 to 2013. Prior to joining Rockefeller, he was a Senior Managing Director and a Portfolio Manager of a hedge fund at Bear Stearns Asset Management.
From 1997 to 2004, Jim was a Senior Managing Director at Bear, Stearns & Co., serving approximately five years in the Investment Banking Department and two years in the Asset-Backed Investments Group. Before joining Bear Stearns, he was a Director at predecessor companies to UBS Investment Bank from 1988 to 1997.
Mr. Crystal received his B.A. magna cum laude from Yale College and an A.M. from Harvard University.
Mr. De Mata has over 12 years of accounting, financial reporting and real estate experience. Prior to joining CV, he was an assurance senior manager at Ernst & Young LLP (EY) serving various types of public and private real estate clients including real estate investment trusts, real estate opportunity funds, multifamily, senior living, homebuilders, and hospitality companies (including timeshares and hotels, both from owner and operator sides). He has experience with SEC reporting and filings of registration statements, XBRL, comfort letters, purchase price allocations, valuation of real estate projects, construction contract accounting, lease accounting, consolidations, and coordination, scoping and testing for various entities that are required to comply with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration - Accounting from California State University, Fullerton and is a Certified Public Accountant with the California Board of Accountancy.
Mr. Wang has over 10 years of experience in residential and commercial real estate finance.
He started his career at XE Capital Management, a $1 billion AUM hedge fund with investments in life insurance products and both domestic and international real estate. During that time, he underwrote and analyzed over $3 billion of real estate opportunities, and he was involved in the deployment and asset management of approximately $500 million of debt and equity in residential, land and commercial development deals throughout the US, Latin America and India. He was also responsible for creating an equity-option valuation model used on the entire real estate portfolio, which totaled nearly $2 billion in enterprise value.
After XE Capital, Mr. Wang served as a real estate sector expert for Lgreen NAV, a financial advisory company. During that time, he worked with several large, well-known, institutional clients to create proprietary financial models for a $1 billion/year CMBS origination and securitization platform, to perform valuations on over $750 million of real estate investments, and to advise in the acquisition, sale and restructuring of distressed opportunities.
Mr. Wang received his B.S. in Computer Engineering from Columbia University and his M.A. in Economics from New York University.
Mr. Tarkowski has over 7 years of finance and real estate experience. He started his career at Colliers Macaulay Nicolls where he supported transactions across all asset types; including Industrial, Land, Office, Retail and Multi-family properties. After Colliers CMN, Mr. Tarkowski led the finance team for a property management firm focused on small to mid-size mixed use condominium associations in the greater Chicagoland area. During that time, he advised and modeled financial strategy for a wide variety of clients to ensure financial solvency during a time of higher defaults and vacancies brought on as a result of the great recession. He has also held key analytical positions for $1 billion+/year companies in the CPG and high volume staffing industries. Mr. Tarkowski earned a B.S in Regional Development from the University of Arizona and his MBA in Finance from Bellevue University.
Prior to joining CV Capital Funding, Mr. Kaplowitz spent 3 years at Cooper-Horowitz, Inc. where he focused on originations and analysis of commercial real estate. In this role, he underwrote, structured and arranged over $500,000,000 of debt and equity opportunities on behalf of his clients for all asset types throughout the country. Mr. Kaplowitz earned his B.S. in Finance from the University of Delaware and his MBA in Real Estate from Baruch College.
